No one can accuse frozen yogurt of being complicated. Even the three posted steps at Mochi’s cartoonishly sparkling spot in the Plaza building downtown are pleasantly uncontrived: Pick your yogurt flavor, put toppings on it, then weigh and pay. (Recommended step No. 4: Get your parking stub validated.)
The base yogurts vary, but span the spectrum from refreshing (like the tart regular and taro flavors) to dulcet (red velvet and chocolate), making Mochi hard to resist no matter what mood you’re in. Newbies are advised to take it easy on the self-serve – it’s not hard to go overboard. Next, be a mad scientist with toppings ranging from chopped fruits to sweet cereals to candies. It costs 45 cents an ounce, but you’d be surprised just how far an ounce can go. Also available are ice cream patties wrapped in Asian rice paste (aka mochi; $1), but they may suit a more adventurous palate.
