No Meah culpa

No one has actually apologized. But at least Amazon.com finally decided last week to remove from its website posters that reproduced the work of celebrated Tampa circus-banner artist Johnny Meah [Sideshow Infraction, Dec. 2].

The posters, manufactured by a Philadelphia-based company called Make It Big and sold on Amazon for $50-$200, erased Meah's signature and claimed to be drawn by "unknown" illustrators, even though the originals were included, with proper credit, in several circus-art books. Meah's lawyer had sent cease-and-desist letters to Amazon and Make It Big, to no avail.

An e-mail from Amazon's books manager sent to an angry customer, forwarded to Orlando Weekly, announced that the web giant will remove all Make It Big items until the poster company can prove that it has the rights to sell anything it's trying to distribute.
