More beholden to The Office than Spinal Tap, British mockumentary Confetti is relentless in its sarcasm, as it puts three couples in the middle of a magazine’s contest for “Most Unique Wedding.” Most ridiculous are the hypercompetitive pair of tennis players and the two frequently nude naturists; their oddness amplifies the everyday quirks of the “normal” couple, who simply want their wedding to look like a Busby Berkeley musical. Played by U.K. Office alum Martin Freeman and fellow Beeb sitcom star Jessica Stevenson (Spaced), the latter lovebirds have scenes that are funnier, sweeter and more complex than those that depend on stereotypes heaped upon the gay wedding planners or an endless parade of fat guys with flaccid penises dominating the naturists’ world. The TV-flat production makes it easier to laugh at the obvious jokes, while the cast’s spot-on timing makes the subtler humor shine even brighter.
