A hackneyed, melodramatic travesty is certainly to be expected from the cinematic rendering of Neale Donald Walsch’s simplistic, best-selling self-help tomes. But this superficial, too-syrupy-even-for-Lifetime presentation is astonishing in its awfulness. Redeemed only by the beauty of its location shots (in Oregon’s Rogue Valley), Conversations is the apex of director Stephen Simon’s (Somewhere in Time, What Dreams May Come) career effort to create the most heartlessly “inspirational” films out of the thinnest of redemption tales.
