Film >The Mist
The premise of The Mist sounds silly: Small-town residents end up trapped inside a grocery store by a mysterious mist that they slowly realize is filled with freakish monsters not of this world. The movie itself is silly at times, too. The dialogue, by writer-director Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption) is more often than not artificial, predictable and even comical as it tries to wrestle characters into agreeing with the story line. The end result, however, is anything but silly and downright terrifying at times. The Mist co-stars Thomas Jane as the hero and Marcia Gay Harden as a delusional religious zealot, and it’s far from perfect but it grabs you by the neck and refuses to relent.
