Paper Man (*)This debut film from writer-directors Kieran and Michele Mulroney (who are slated to write the Sherlock Holmes sequel) plays like a direct crib from a chapter from David Cross’ mock “free list of quirks for aspiring independent filmmakers.” Laughably self-serious and diced in the editing bay to the point where some scenes are seconds long while other expositional bits contain no clear point, it’s hard to imagine a more aimless work of indie indulgence. Jeff Daniels plays a novelist with writer’s block who befriends a quirky teen (beautiful Emma Stone, who deserves better than this). Daniels also has an imaginary superhero friend (Ryan Reynolds’ package), who serves no purpose but to look bored. – JS (6:30 p.m. at Regal Winter Park)
