Long since resigned to the coffee tables of khaki families or wedged on shelves next to the Bible and The Da Vinci Code, it’s easy to forget the widescreen impact of U2’s 1987 world-altering breakout. The Joshua Tree existed as an often-understated omnibus defining humanity. Where previous efforts hinted at a fiery and important pomposity, the requisite hamfists were still in need of a little texturizing, and they got it. The result still shimmers 20 years later, thanks to a meticulous remaster and repackaging campaign to celebrate its anniversary. Four different formats are available for you completists: regular CD format, a deluxe edition with bonus B-side CD, a box set with concert/documentary DVD and a double vinyl version. “You’ve got to cry without weeping, talk without speaking, scream without raising your voice,” sings Bono. With The Joshua Tree, that’s what they achieved.
