On The Side > On The Side

Homegrown pleasures

There I was, complaining that July to October was just too damn long to wait for the College Park Growers' Market to start up again. And lo and behold, it's back.

Starting on Oct. 11 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and every Thursday evening thereafter, Albert Park on Edgewater Drive once again becomes a focal point for organic veggies, super-fresh cut flowers and the kind of community interaction that is sorely lacking elsewhere.

The dealer assortment is larger than last year, including the Seminole Springs Herb Garden, Prince's Orchids (grown right in College Park), and Universal Gardens, which will bring in organic fruits and the famed Yalaha Bakery breads. The Grass Roots Caf?'s vegetarian hot dogs will be back, too. Buying antique roses and organic oranges from the actual people who grew them is an experience you can't duplicate in a theme park.
